Our Mission

The Society for News Design Foundation, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization founded in 1992, is dedicated to promoting the craft of visual storytelling, increasing equity and access to careers in the industry, and educating future leaders. 

The Foundation’s goals are to:

  • Increase awareness of the visual storytelling industry and its career opportunities to pre-college and college students.
  • Promote the importance of accessibility and inclusion in design through education and research.
  • Provide career transition support for those with an interest in the visual storytelling profession.
  • Support under-resourced organizations with access to expertise and educational opportunities and experiences.

Support Out Mission to Provide Trainings and Resources to Students and Emerging Professionals.

The Relationship Between Society for News Design and the SND Foundation

The Society for News Design Foundation was established in 1992 by the Society for News Design (SND) and is the charitable arm of SND. It is a separate not for profit entity however the two organizations work together to support their shared interests for building and supporting the visual storytelling community and building future leaders.  

The Foundation focuses its efforts on pre-college and college students, young professionals and under-resourced organizations and promoting of inclusive design. SND supports designers transitioning into their careers and design leaders. Both organizations are committed to the visual storytelling industry and maintain efforts to provide support, trainings and networking opportunities to build a community of innovative and creative visual designers.
